(G)I-DLE’s 5th Mini Album [I love]

(G)I-DLE, the leading K-pop artists who reached heights with their 1st Full Album „I NEVER DIE‟ released in March 2022, topping the iTunes charts in 24 countries and placing 58th on „Billboard Global 200‟, is coming back in 7 months, after successfully completing their „2022 (G)I-DLE WORLD TOUR [JUST ME ( )I-DLE]„ in 18 cities in 10 countries.

[I love] embodies the audacious aspiration that „I‟ deserve to stay true to „myself‟ instead of being what others want me to be and that I hope to throw away the show which I don‟t want, and instead present the genuine, true self.

Each of the 6 tracks on the album unravels a different story of love through music. Various genres from pop, rock, indie pop, and more are expressed in (G)I-DLE‟s very own style. JEON SOYEON once again took the initiative in leading the general album production process as the executive producer, and the band members contributed to the songwriting of all tracks, affirming their reputation as „multitalented artists‟.

The title track „Nxde‟ is a song in the alternative pop genre that adopted the melody of „Habanera‟ the aria of „Carmen‟ the opera in order to illustrate everyone‟s persona as „show‟. It metaphorically expresses the authentic, true self of one as nude, and the lyrics with sarcasm at the provocative views on the word stand out. With the grand bass line consisting of shuffle rhythm and straightforward lyrics capturing the audience‟s attention, it‟s just like a musical you can‟t take your eyes off of.

Previously, (G)I-DLE raised expectations for this album by consecutively revealing images of three concepts: the „Act‟ concept portraying the double-sidedness of love; the „Born‟ concept with visuals inspired by the widely loved Hollywood figure Marilyn Monroe; and the „X-File‟ concept that shows what lies underneath artists who are loved by everybody. Further, the music video of „Nxde‟ which is a story of movie stars on their journey to finding their true selves uses animation to deliver a message without being overserious, presenting unique aesthetics to fans.

(G)I-DLE stand on bare feet, crashing prejudices and protecting what they love, the things that love them, and themselves, „even if it might be unattractive, and even if they might never be loved again‟. Their footsteps that will finally change the era are now more anticipated than ever.

1MILLION Dance Studio, a global leader in the dance scene, opens its official Spotify account
Various playlists are revealed, including 1MILLION’s brand playlist ‘1MILLION!’ and individual playlists curated by five of its choreographers

On the world’s most popular audio subscription service Spotify, listeners are now able to meet the official brand playlist of South Korea’s world-renowned 1MILLION Dance Studio and a variety of playlists directly curated by 1MILLION’s key dancers.

Established in 2014, 1MILLION has been leading the global dance culture by operating offline dance studios and its own social channels including YouTube and Instagram. 1MILLION has launched its official Spotify account to connect with fans in a deeper way. Also, in celebration of the launch of its Spotify account, the famed studio has created its brand playlist and various themed playlists with songs that are hand-picked by some of its most popular dancers.

First, 1MILLION’s brand playlist 1MILLION! presents fan-favorite tracks that are featured in the top dance videos uploaded on its YouTube channel which currently has over 25M followers, and songs that have inspired its choreographies. Through the playlist, Spotify listeners can check out 1MILLION’s music selections at a glance and discover some of the trendiest tracks in the dance scene.

1MILLION has also unveiled five additional playlists which have been each curated by choreographers YOOJUNG LEE, BALE, WOONHA, KOOJAEMO, and K CHAN based on their music tastes. The details about the choreographers and their playlists are as follows:

1. YOOJUNG LEE - Mystery Party

YOOJUNG LEE, who found her interest in dance at age 16, broadened her spectrum of dancing by experiencing a variety of dance genres at an art school and eventually joined 1MILLION in 2015 as a choreographer and instructor. With her ‘Mystery Party’ playlist, YOOJUNG shares her favorite daily warm-up songs including tracks from BIBI and Shawn Mendes.

2. BALE - Relax, Warm-Up

Working as a choreographer and instructor at 1MILLION since 2020, BALE gained recognition in the industry with his win at one of Asia’s most prestigious dance competitions, ‘Feedback Competition’. Before class or practice, BALE likes to listen to his playlist ‘Relax, Warm-Up’ which features 24 tracks including hits from Khalid and Daniel Caesar.

3. WOONHA - Low Wave

Known for her dark and gothic style of choreography, WOONHA began dancing at age 19 when she joined her high school dance club. She later passed an audition to perform with 1MILLION, which led to her officially becoming a choreographer and instructor at 1MILLION in 2019. With selections from Mura Masa and FKA twigs, WOONHA’s ‘Low Wave’ playlist is equally suited for relaxing before or after dance class.

4. KOOJAEMO - All That Hip

Acknowledged as one of the rising street dancers in South Korea, KOOJAEMO appeared in countless music videos such as Solar’s “HONEY”, NCT U’s “Maniac”, and AleXa’s “Xtra” as well as shows including tvN’s and MBC’s . He has selected 27 tracks that can pump you up before dance class, which can be found in his playlist ‘All That Hip’.

5. K CHAN - Feel Groovy

1MILLION’s choreographer and instructor K CHAN participated in SUNYE’s “Just A Dancer” music video and appeared in Korea Tourism Organization’s famous “Feel the Rhythm of Korea: SEOUL” ad, which has gained over 48M views to date. Including songs of Burna Boy and Omah Lay, K CHAN’s ‘Feel Groovy’ playlist features chill, groovy songs to help cool down after dance class.

CARAT's Pride SEVENTEEN’s SEUNGKWAN’s Latest Cover 'As It Was' only on Spotify

SEUNGKWAN, the vocal powerhouse from South Korean boy band SEVENTEEN, released a Spotify Single, covering Harry Styles’ As It Was. Available exclusively on Spotify, the single is a pared back version of Styles’ As It Was, which was named Spotify’s Song of the Summer 2022, having dominated global charts throughout the season. SEUNGKWAN has also released a special film to accompany the track, which can be viewed exclusively on Spotify’s K-Pop ON! Track.

K-Pop group, CRAVITY, have just released their highly anticipated 4TH MINI ALBUM, 'NEW WAVE'. Named by Variety as an “Up-and-Coming Group to Know,” this mini album release comes shortly after wrapping up their first KCON LA performance and six-city U.S. KCON Tour.

'NEW WAVE' includes the lead track “PARTY ROCK” – fans can watch the music video for "PARTY ROCK" here and stream 'NEW WAVE' here: orcd.co/cravitynewwave CRAVITY’s overarching storyline has always focused on their journey into the new world, and they are back with a new theme of “youth”. That is, the feelings, emotions, and the real youth that come with freedom. 'NEW WAVE' shows a more mature side of CRAVITY, with lyrics representing their growth as a group and the maturity they have learned throughout their career. Rappers Serim and Allen contributed to writing lyrics on multiple tracks, and the mini album also includes lead vocalist Woobin's first self-produced song.

The lead track “PARTY ROCK” blends four genres of Pop, Rock, Funk, and EDM, creating a fresh sound of the nine members expressing their bright energy. The youth of CRAVITY is encapsulated in this signature track to emit endless energy both sonically and visually. Giving the message that CRAVITY will always be there for LUVITY, the name of their fandom, the nine members are ready to be connected to their fans more than ever. The music video depicts the boys enjoying themselves to the fullest, and as they step into a new space of their own, the world changes.

The music and the music video have a storyline connection – it’s about CRAVITY vibing with the music in a completely different space where they find their new selves. While the boys enjoy their freedom; the two different versions of themselves coexist, and it’s once again their turn to discover the new “me”.

Consisting of 6 tracks, Rappers Serim and Allen contributed to writing lyrics for “PARTY ROCK”, “New Addiction”, “AUTOMATIC”, and “Colorful”. Lead vocalist Woobin too participated in writing the lyrics for “Colorful”, a track that also marks his first self-produced song on a CRAVITY album. “Colorful” is a moombahton-based dance-pop track which uses the word “color” as a metaphor; it conveys the message that a special someone can make a person's ordinary and boring life be filled with different colours.

'NEW WAVE' also includes their first ever English-language track, “Boogie Woogie”. Released last month ahead of their album release, “Boogie Woogie” captured the attention of international media such as Zach Sang Show, Refinery29, Audacy, Variety and more.

Super Junior takes Singapore E.L.F down the memory lane with SUPER JUNIOR WORLD TOUR – SUPER SHOW 9 : ROAD

Super Junior returns to Singapore with their 9^th concert tour, SUPER JUNIOR WORLD TOUR – SUPER SHOW 9 : ROAD on 3 September 2022. This marks the group’s 6^th Super Show on our sunny shores!

E.L.F (known as Ever Lasting Friends, their fandom name) kickstarted their September at Singapore Indoor Stadium with their 8 beloved members – Leeteuk, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun. Despite the late announcement, the venue was still filled with a sea of beautiful sapphire blue lightsticks, also the fandom’s official colour.

Before the show commenced, fan support such as banners and even bubble tea (to battle the afternoon heat) were distributed by fans outside the venue. We must say fan service is not just given by idols themselves!

The group finally appeared and started their Super Show with songs like ‘Burn The Floor’, ‘The Crown’, ‘Super’ and ‘Mr Simple’. The atmosphere then turned slightly darker and more magical, with the members performing ‘Ticky Tocky’, ‘Paradox’ and ‘Mystery’ in glittery black outfits.

It was then time for their long-awaited first greeting! Starting off with Shindong saying “Sing-sing-Singapore” and ending with Leeteuk’s “Singapore-pore-pore”, the members incorporated their knowledge of the country with languages like English, Mandarin and even Singlish:

“We super long never meet liao,” Kyuhyun drove the audience into laughter.

“Nice to meet you la”, Eunhyuk added to the Singlish.

Members like Kyuhyun and Siwon also spoke some Mandarin, visibly remnants of their Super Junior-M (standing for Mandarin, one of their sub-units) days. After greeting their fans, K.R.Y, one of their sub-units, took things slower with ‘I Can’t’, blowing everyone’s minds with their solid live vocals.

The whole group then appeared on stage again with ‘Believe’, a song specially prepared for Singapore E.L.F.

Leeteuk: “We prepared 'Believe' only for our Singapore fans. How do you like it?”

Eunhyuk: “This song was from our first album!”

Kyuhyun: “Yeah… I wasn’t here yet,” the youngest member sent fans laughing once again.

Super Junior lifts the atmosphere again with an amusing ‘God of Music’ segment, where they cosplayed as famous musicians and churned out songs like ‘SPY’, ‘MAMACITA’, ‘Rokkugo’ in opera-musical versions. They also got upclose and personal with fans while performing at the extended stage!

While the group heads backstage, D&E, another of their sub-units, kicks off a rock medley with ‘B.A.D’ and ‘Danger’. The remaining members joined later with rock versions of ‘Bonamana’, where leader Leeteuk even removed his shirt, and of course the legendary ‘Sorry Sorry’.

Much to ELF’ sadness, it was time for the group’s closing speeches.

Shindong: “Just like good friends, it’s not about meeting often, but how it still feels the same after so long. That’s how I feel with Singapore ELF.”

Ryeowook: “After we arrived in Singapore, we didn’t sleep well because we were so nervous. At backstage, I see members looking exhausted, but still trying their best to put up a good show. I don’t know how long we can keep our energy going, but we’ll try our best so we can see our Singapore fans for a long time.”

Yesung: “So many thoughts crossed my mind during the last stage. Even though we couldn’t meet for the past few years, I can still feel your love from afar.”

Siwon: “Actually I invited 30 of my friends here today! So we’ve all been looking forward to this moment. Did you guys enjoy tonight?”

Eunhyuk: “Honestly, I went through a difficult 1 month. I had a lot of worries and concerns before I finally got to meet you. There was a space in my heart that was left empty, but seeing all of you today, I think that empty space has been filled up.” The main dancer also received audible cheers and encouragement from the fans, and Siwon was also seen comforting him for the rest of their time on stage.

Additionally, they even saw a couple in the audience and chatted with them!

Throughout the 3-hour jam-packed concert, Super Junior brought their fans through a roller coaster ride of comedic and sentimental moments. The members lived up to the title of their concert by making use of props, eye-catching stage set-ups and delivering magnificent performances - a Super Show indeed! The pioneers of the industry show that age’s got nothing on them, proving the true entertainers that they are.

On 3 August, (G)I-DLE released their new summer single, ‘DUMDi DUMDi’.

As of 7 August, ‘DUMDi DUMDi' has surpassed 1 million streams on the korean digital streaming platform, GENIE. Of course, (G)I-DLE’s success extends beyond their domestic popularity! Internationally, ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ has soared to the top in the iTunes Top Songs Chart in 41 regions, namely, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and more. As of today, the official music video has already reached over 40 million views. With barely 3 years since their debut, (G)I-DLE has showed tremendous potential to excel in the future as one of the biggest girl groups in the K-pop industry.

The pleasant girls of (G)I-DLE took time off their busy schedules to answer questions from the GOKPOP team.

When asked to describe the new summer single ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ which differs from the usual powerful and strong image of the girls, Miyeon responded, “‘DUMDi DUMDi’ is a refreshing song that will blow this heat away. The lyrics address our youth and passion, which are just like summer.” It has only been less than a week since the release of ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ and we are already addicted to the melodious tune and catchy lyrics!

Intrigued by Soyeon’s never-ending concept-generating for (G)I-DLE, we had to know her muse this time when producing for the new release! Of course, the leader of (G)I-DLE charmingly answered, “the 23-year-old me.” She also mentioned her goal to ingrain the words ‘DUMDi DUMDi’. Indeed, Soyeon is one genius producer!

Shuhua also commented that through the preparations for the comeback, the girls had dance practices every day. Even though the choreography changed little by little and she recalled struggling for a few days, it was a memorable episode of the comeback preparation for the youngest member of (G)I-DLE. You truly worked hard, Shuhua!

(G)-IDLE has also successfully completed their 1st online concert recently! With this being their first concert since debut, we were curious about how the girls felt meeting NEVERLANDs (affectionate name for the fans of (G)I-DLE) virtually. Soojin stated, “We were upset that we couldn’t actually meet, but the chat let us communicate with our fans in real time, so it was fun.” I am 502% sure NEVERLANDs feel the same way!

When questioned what the members of (G)I-DLE are most looking forward to apart from making their comeback, Yuqi expressed that they are always looking forward to the chance to meet NEVERLAND up close. NEVERLANDs are also anticipating the day we can meet the girls again!

Regarding the plans and goals for this comeback, Minnie conveyed that (G)I-DLE’s goal is for everyone to enjoy this summer by listening to ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ and cheer up during these struggling times. “Although we can’t meet NEVERLAND in real life, we hope this song will make everyone feel better.” As expected from the sweet and kind-hearted girls of (G)-IDLE!

Airbnb ‘Pressroom Live’: Concerts for a good cause

Come August 19, Airbnb will launch two indie concert Experiences in collaboration with local Korean newspaper Hankyoreh. Popular musicians Lee Hee-Moon Band and Harim will hold a ‘Pressroom Live’ concert in Hankyoreh’s newsroom on August 30 and September 3 respectively. Lead vocalist Lee was previously from popular Korean folk-rock band SsingSsing, while Harim is a renowned local songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Each concert is open to eight guests only and can be booked on a first-come, first-served basis on Airbnb.
